Chocolate Crackles (the easy way)

I love these cookies but have never made them from scratch because it seemed like a whole lot of work to melt the chocolate over a dutch oven..... Recently, I found an easy version and tested them out at a family gathering. No one noticed the difference. In fact, there wasn't one left on the plate.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Bake Time: 8-10 minutes
Yields: 4 1/2 dozen
Cost: Approx. $1.00

1 box of Brownie mix ($.89)
1 cup flour
1 eggs
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup oil
powdered sugar

Mix all ingredients well. If dough is sticky add extra flour and chill dough for 5 minutes. Roll dough into balls and cover with powdered sugar. Bake at 350 for 6-8 minutes. Do not over bake.

I was just saying to myself the other day -- I need to find a recipe for chocolate crinkles (that's what we called them). Thanks!!! You did my work for me. :)

Those look delish! I will have to add them to my list of stuff to make this week, LOL

My girls made "snowball cookies" the other day... I didn't take pictures, so I guess we will have to make them again so I can post it on my blog!

I make these from baking cocoa. Depending on what you pay for the cocoa, they might be a bit less expensive, and they are SOOOOO good!!! I posted my recipe here if you want to compare them. I love these things!!! :-)

These are some of my favorite cookies ever! I remember my mom making them when I was young and I don't think they lasted for more than a few minutes. YUM!

You know, it's a shame. I have never made these. We'll have to do something about that. Really soon.

I don't know what I did but I had terrible luck with these! What type of brownie mix did you use and how much flour did you need? Did you use oil or applesauce? Did yours come out with the texture of the scratch chocolate cookies?

I used the brownie mix from Aldi and the applesauce. I had to add at least 2 cups of flour and still it was sticky, but any more would have seriously compromised the taste. They ended up like the cookie part of an ice cream sandwich.

Saralyn, Your comment prompted me to make these again. The kids thank you:) I went ahead and altered the recipe a bit. The first time I used 2 small eggs. I'm thinking that if 2 large eggs are used it would make them quite sticky. So I changed to recipe to 1 egg only. In addition, I remember now that applesauce and brownie mix aren't good companions if you want that fudgy texture. I used oil and changed the recipe to reflect this. Hope you try them again with better success next time.
